The EECMA Quality Seal is awarded following assessment by the Quality Council, an advisory board of independent experts and individuals with extensive expertise. This accreditation classifies event organizers and organizations in the Christmas market business as premium markets and grants them access to the EECMA's international network. The "Excellent European Christmas Market" award is presented annually, with ten Christmas markets receiving recognition each year, including two in the special category for castles and palaces. The jury is comprised of members of the EECMA Quality Council, the members of the Award Committee, and the Executive Board. Decisions regarding nominations and winners are based on extensive research conducted by the EECMA Quality Council, which covers aspects such as strategic direction, service orientation, experience-oriented programming, and the future potential of the Christmas market, as well as recommendations from the Executive Board and members of the Award Committee. Information and data from the CCI monitoring and research pool, which annually examines Christmas markets across Europe, also contribute to the decision-making process.
